“How do we keep our inner fire alive? Two things, at minimum, are needed: an ability to appreciate the positives in our life – and a commitment to action. Every day, it’s important to ask and answer these questions: ‘What’s good in my life?’ and ‘What needs to be done?’”
– Nathaniel Branden

Recently my life has offered many choices some I have found to be easy to make like getting a shower, exercising in the morning may be a little more challenging, eating three meals a day, piece of cake (sometimes literally)…while others have proven to be a lot tougher.

There’s a very different quality to my action when it springs from a sense of abundance as opposed to a feeling of lack.

When I sense I’m not good enough or that I don’t have enough, I feel driven to be better and to have more. When coming from this space…whatever I do seems to take effort – there’s an element of struggle involved. – I’m working on an empty tank and with these gas prices it takes alot to fill er up.

However, I have noticed that when I’m feeling abundant, I act out of my own inspiration. I’m full and so the energy flows naturally. This action at times feels almost effortless.

Last night I found myself operating from lack.  As I sat on the front porch of where I am staying it was full of love, laughter and connection then all of a sudden everyone left, I found myself sitting alone with my thoughts.  Wow the stories that I told myself.  These stories wouldn’t be picked up by Random House that’s for sure. It was probably more like the magazines you see at the check out line, you know the ones that have alien babies on the front of them.

None the less I chose to create from lack, here are some of the stories I was creating, “I don’t have a husband sitting next to me holding me and I really miss that,” “I don’t have my bills paid,” “I don’t have my paperwork complete,” “I am not meeting my expectations,” etc, etc, etc…..believe me the list was long and very dramatic. I noticed coming from this space it created suffering and struggle…. that I finally broke through.

Wait a second, I have my daughter with me, I have friends with me, I have some of my bills paid, I completed 9 months of paperwork, I am doing my best, I am loved and supported, thank you for this! See even though it didn’t look a certain way to me in that moment didn’t mean I didn’t have it around me.

“ …what I focus on in life is what I get. And if I concentrate on how bad I am or how wrong I am or how inadequate I am, if I concentrate on what I can’t do and how there’s not enough time in which to do it, isn’t that what I get every time? And when I think about how powerful I am, and when I think about what I have left to contribute, and when I think about the difference I can make on this planet, then that’s what I get. You see, I recognize that it’s not what happens to you; it’s what you do about it.”
– W. Mitchell

It’s important to remember that we don’t need money, significant others, cars, homes to be abundant. All we need is appreciation of all that we have.

Affirmation: Today I choose to cause, create and generate an appreciation of all that I have and that I am experiencing today!
